Makeup Kit For Beginners

Hello everyone!
When first starting to wear makeup, it can be overwhelming trying to find inexpensive, good quality products . Here is a list of things to consider when deciding what to get.

Brushes:
Real Techniques

Brushes make a big difference in the application of makeup.  Real Techniques and Eco-tools both are good brushes for a decent price. I find that the bristles are soft and don't shed. I also own a few e.l.f. brushes and find they are pretty good quality. The normal ones are $1 each, or they have a professional line for $3 each. You don't need to go out and buy every kind of brush, but there are a few I recommend having in your makeup kit.
  • Face Brushes:
    • Powder brush- When using a liquid foundation or bb cream it is important to set it with a translucent powder or pressed powder. This helps the makeup last longer.
    • Blush Brush- Obviously this is used to apply blush and give it a nice even application on your cheeks.
      Ecotools
    • Face Brush- You will need to decide how you want to apply your foundation or bb cream. You can use your fingers, or you can choose to use a brush or sponge. There are a few different options for face brushes. You can get a flat top kabuki brush, a foundation brush, or you can get a beauty blender or other type of sponge. For starting out I would recommend using your fingers, or a makeup sponge, because these are the easiest to use.
  • Eyeshadow Brushes:
    • Eyeshadow Brush- This is a flat brush that is used to apply eyeshadow on your entire lid.
    • Blending Brush- This is used to apply color to the crease of your eye. It is easily used to blend the color and prevent harsh lines.
    • Angled liner brush- This can be used to fill in eyebrows, or to apply gel eyeliner.
Face makeup: For this I would recommend a bb cream over a foundation. If you are just starting to wear makeup you probably don't need a full coverage. BB creams are great because they are light and give a natural finish, but it evens out skin tone. You will want to be sure to find one that matches your skin tone well, as well as your skin type. If you have oily skin, be sure to get one that is oil-free. Make sure to use a face moisturizer before applying any face makeup. Also, if you have oily skin setting your makeup with a translucent powder will help face makeup last longer.

Concealer: Concealer is used to cover any blemishes and under-eye circles. You want this to be a shade lighter then your foundation.

Blush: Blush comes in a powder and cream form. When choosing a color, find one that suits your skin tone. You don't want something that is too light, or too dark because it will look unnatural.

Eyeshadow: I would start with neutral colors. They are easy to use and they go with any look. You will want lighter colors for an all over eye color and slightly darker colors for your crease. Wet and Wild has a large selection of colors and they are reasonably priced too.  Eyeshadow can also be used to fill in eyebrows if you choose. If you are blond, use a shade darker and if you are brunette, use a shade lighter.

Eyeliner: Eyeliner can be tricky to apply at first. It gets easier with practice though. It comes in pencil, kohl, gel and liquid. You will want to pick the kind you use based on the look you are going for. Gel and liquid are good for the upper lash line and they last a long time. Pencil and kohl are good for the bottom lash line or water line. They are easily smudged if you want a smoky look. They don't last as long though.

Mascara: Mascara defines and separates lashes and makes your eyes stand out. Great lash by Maybelline is a good one.

Lips: Lip gloss or a tinted lip balms look nice without being too much. Revlon lip butters are my favorite and give just a hint of color.

By no means do you need to have all of these products to wear makeup. Pick and choose what you want to wear. Natural is always good. If you want any recommendations for products just let me know.

    1. Thank you! I think the Ecotools brushes are just as good as some of the more expensive ones that I have.
